New Good Reads

Church Growth/Revitalization

As we all know or at least should be made aware of, overall church attendance, membership, and new believer conversions have drastically declined over the past several decades.  These issues should be in the heart and mind of all of those who profess Christ.  We need to be praying for a revival in our churches, our communities, and our country.  The book called "Where Do We Go from Here" by Dr. Leo Endel is highly recommended by the South-East Missouri Region Directors of Missions.  Our regional Directors of Missions and Pastors have read, reviewed, and discussed its viability for our area, and have recommend it to be read by all Pastors, Deacons, and Lay Persons. We believe that the information contained in this book will help us understand the importance of all five functions of the church, and the road that our churches need to be on in our quest for Kingdom building.  If your church does not have a copy of this book it can be found on Amazon.  Amazon sells both electonic (Kindle) and paperback.

A 42 day prayer guide was developed by a focus group from the South-East Missouri Region Directors of Missions which is called "Guided Prayer For Effective Ministry" and is available free of charge in Adobe PDF format.  This prayer guide is a companion to the book by Dr. Endel.  Please contact Bro. Tom Keene for an electronic copy of the book, which may be copied for all your church membership.

Association & Leadership Developement

Many people in church leadership, as well as members of the congregation have forgotten the purpose of the Baptist Association.  Many are led to believe that the association is the directing authority of the Southern Baptist churches under their umbrella.  It is sad to say, that is why many do not want to support their association and become independent.  Being a "directing authority " is far beyond the truth.  Baptist Associations are biblical.  All we have to do is look at the ministry of the Apostle Paul; a missionary, sent out, planted churches, visited churches, and unified them as an association of like minded believers.   The job of the Director of Missions or the Executive Board are not there to dictate how the churches are run, for each church is autonomous.  The association is there to promote missions, unity, brother helping brother, churches helping churches for one cause, "the advancement of God's Kingdom".   A book that the Missouri Baptist Convention Directors of Missions have began to review describes the function of the Baptist Association and its leadership.  The book is called: "The Baptist Association: Assisting Churches. Advancing the Gospel" by Ray Gentry.  This book has many good points, but may not be fully suitable for the rural small association.  He stresses the importance of the new name for the Director of Missions, which is the "Association Mission Strategist".  This new name is more in tune with what the Director of Missions does.  He is not a director, but is considered a strategic planner, helping churches lead themselves in church growth, planting, or revitalization.  Ray Gentry's book is very interesting and thought provoking.  This book is highly recommended to be read by all church memeber to help them understand the biblical function and importance of the Association.  If your church does not have a copy of this book it can be found on Amazon.  Amazon sells both electonic (Kindle) and paperback.

Join thousands of kids across the country in hands-on ministry in your community for Children’s Missions Day! WMU invites all children in grades 1–6 to participate on a Saturday in February each year.

From feeding hungry people to visiting shut-ins, boys and girls follow God’s command to “put your love into action” (1 John 3:18). Church groups create projects that meet needs in their own communities. WMU created Children’s Missions Day to move children out of their churches and into their communities to do missions. The first Children’s Missions Day was in 2008. Since then, thousands of people have taken part in this special day.

If you have comments or questions about Children’s Missions Day, please email or contact your state WMU office. We look forward to helping your kids do hands-on ministry!  For further information click the Childrens Mission Day button above.
